Montgomery County to Host Online Conversation About Opioid Crisis And Harm Reduction Services Wednesday, June 16

Per Montgomery County:

For Immediate Release: Thursday, June 10, 2021

Montgomery County residents are invited to an online conversation about the current opioid crisis and to hear about harm reduction services in the community. The session is part of a series, Wellness Community Events: Healing and Holding On—One Conversation at a Time for the Community, which is focused on mental health and wellness issues affecting the community as the COVID-19 pandemic continues. The conversation will be held on Wednesday, June 16 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Ben Stevenson, the prevention and harm reduction manager for the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, will explore the landscape of opioid use disorders and provide information on harm reduction services that assist individuals and their families who are affected by drug use.

In his role, Stevenson plans and coordinates prevention efforts to educate and raise awareness of the dangers of substance use. He is a certified prevention professional who has worked in the substance use prevention field for more than 15 years and has worked with thousands of individuals, professionals, and parents and families in communities across the United States. Under harm reduction services, Stevenson and the team work to educate the public about opioid use disorder, including how to spot the signs of an overdose, how to help someone experiencing an overdose and engaging individuals who misuse drugs in harm reduction services.

The events are free, open to the public and no registration is required. Join the conversation on Teams Live at http://bit.ly/behavioral-lbha or view it live on the County Cable Montgomery and the County’s Facebook page.
