
The Montgomery County Remembrance and Reconciliation Commission to Host Discussion on The Impact of Lynching And Residual Effects That Impede Access to Property Ownership June 24

The Montgomery County Remembrance and Reconciliation Commission is hosting a virtual discussion on the impact of lynching and residual effects that impede access to property ownership. It will take place Thursday, June 24, 2021 from 7:15 p.m. – 9 p.m.
Redlining imposed by the federal government and prolonged due systemic racism and implicit bias deprived black communities of wealth creation. During this discussion explore how realtors, mortgage financiers, and legislators are striving for greater equity and social justice in Montgomery County.
The virtual discussion will be moderated by Dr. Lester Spence, Professor of Political Science and Africana Studies at Johns Hopkins University. Panelists include President & CEO of the African American Chamber of Commerce Janice M. Freeman, President & Founder of Fortis Mortgage Shawn C. Williams, Maryland General Assembly District 14 Delegate Pamela E. Queen and Montgomery County Councilmember Will Jawando.

The Montgomery County Remembrance and Reconciliation Commission was formed on January 29, 2019, through a resolution by Councilmembers Hans Riemer, Will Jawando and Craig Rice. The commission was established to support the goal of bringing the County together to promote a better understanding of our history. The Montgomery County Office of Human Rights provides staff support.
