County Executive Marc Elrich to Launch New $42 Million Motorola Radio System to Improve First Responder Response and Resident Safety Tomorrow in Potomac

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will join representatives from the Montgomery County Police Department, the Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Service,  the County Department of Technology and Enterprise Business Solutions and Motorola Solutions to officially launch the new $42 million Astro 25 land mobile radio system. The launch will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, July 29, at the Cabin John Volunteer Fire Station in Potomac.

The Cabin John Volunteer Fire Station is located at 9404 Falls Rd., in Potomac. Media parking is available on site.

The new ASTRO 25 radio system will replace an old system that was vulnerable to disruptions and potential delays in response. Eleven new radio sites were installed for the system, doubling the number total number of radio sites in the County to 22. The system increases capacity to support more people and update compatibility.

This system will be maintained by Motorola Solutions, whose contract includes 10 years of support services and maintenance. Through the contract, many disruptions between first responders and residents will be minimized and lives will ultimately be saved.
