One Week Remaining For $1 Million VaxU Scholarship Promotion

Per the State of Maryland:

ANNAPOLIS, MD—One week remains in the $1 million VaxU Scholarship Promotion, an incentive program to encourage 12- to 17-year-olds to get vaccinated against COVID-19. The initiative, jointly administered by the Maryland Department of Health (MDH) and the Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC), provides $50,000 scholarships to 20 winners through weekly random drawings.

“We are already nearing 70% of our 12- to-17-year-olds vaccinated, another testament to our incredible vaccination campaign that is leading the nation,” said Governor Hogan. “With one week remaining in the VaxU program, there’s still time to get vaccinated and qualify for a $50,000 college scholarship.”

Two winners have been selected each week—including today’s winners from Harford County and Prince George’s County—and on Labor Day, four final winners will be chosen. Earlier this month, the governor met with one of the VaxU winners: John Paul Newman, a 15-year-old Montgomery County resident.

According to CDC data, 67% of 12- to 17-year-olds in Maryland have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine—the third-highest rate in the country.

VaxU followed the successful $2 Million VaxCash Promotion, which helped Maryland get 70% of adults vaccinated by Memorial Day, and 75% by Independence Day.

Federal COVID-19 relief funds are being used to cover the cost of the program. For more information, visit the MHEC VaxU Scholarship Promotion website
