Remembrance and Reconciliation Month: Art Installations Raise Awareness of Lynchings in Montgomery County

For Immediate Release: Friday, November 5, 2021

November has been declared Remembrance and Reconciliation Month in Montgomery County. Throughout this month the Montgomery County Remembrance and Reconciliation Commission is partnering with organizations to host events for the community.

Friday and Saturday six regional artists will project temporary multimedia art installations onto downtown Rockville buildings to further community dialogue concerning racial justice and increase awareness of local history. “Certain Party or Parties Unknown” (CPPU) presented by the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County is a social justice projection art exhibition focused on three African American men who fell victim to racial terror lynchings in Montgomery County in the 1880s: Mr. John Diggs-Dorsey, Mr. George Peck, and Mr. Sidney Randolph.

CPPU will run for two nights only, Nov. 5 and 6. from 7 – 9 p.m. Beginning at the Historic Red Brick Courthouse in Downtown Rockville, visitors will take a short walking tour across two city blocks to view nine installations. A speaking program will take place at the exhibit tonight, Friday, Nov. 5 at 6:30 p.m. at the courthouse before the exhibit launches.

More information on this event and other events happening throughout Remembrance and Reconciliation Month is available here. On Sunday, Nov. 7 at 3 p.m. the Rockville Soil Ceremony held during Remembrance Weekend for Mr. John Diggs-Dorsey and Mr. Sidney Randolph will be rebroadcast by MyMCMedia on YouTube and Facebook.
