Montgomery County Encourages Residents to Shop Local, and Look for ‘MoCo Made’ Products on Small Business Saturday; Marc Elrich to Tour Several Local Businesses

As the world continues to emerge from the still-present COVID-19 health crisis, many aspects of life continue to reach toward conditions that were once considered normal. Among those is holiday shopping, and as the shopping season approaches, Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich is leading the County’s “shop local” campaign.

The efforts start with “Small Business Saturday,” which has become a national tradition to support local businesses on the Saturday after Thanksgiving—one of the busiest shopping days of the year. Residents and local businesses are encouraged to use the hashtag #KeepingMoneyinMontgomery and share pictures and comments about places in the County where they are shopping.

“Montgomery County is home to some of the most significant larger businesses in Maryland and the Washington region, but we also have small businesses that are the fabric of the economic community and create the identity and energy of neighborhoods throughout the County,” said County Executive Elrich. “As people return to safely shopping in person, I encourage them to shop local throughout the holiday season. Smaller shops often have unique products that can make this year’s shopping list special and every small business owner will appreciate the opportunity to meet old customers and make new ones.”

Throughout Small Business Saturday, County Executive Elrich will be visiting businesses in various parts of the County. His visits will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday in Takoma Park. He also plans to stop by businesses in Rockville, Wheaton and Silver Spring. Among the businesses he will visit are:

• All Eco Center. 2662 University Blvd., Wheaton.
• Filippo’s Italian Deli. 11226 Triangle Ln., Wheaton
• Loyalty Bookstore. 823 Ellsworth Dr., Silver Spring.
• Kefa Café. 963 Bonifant St., Silver Spring.
