Montgomery County Council Votes to Extend Mask Mandate Until at Least January 31

The Montgomery County Council, acting as the Board of Health, met this morning for a public health update and voted to terminate the existing Board of Health regulation that was scheduled to end the indoor mask requirement when Montgomery County reached  an 85% vaccination rate.  Montgomery County is currently at 83.3%.

The mandate is now scheduled to end on January 31st., meaning masks will be required until at least that date.

The County Council will meet on January 24th to determine whether or not to extend the mandate once again.

Additional notes from meeting:
-1:4 individuals tested are positive, transmission rate shooting straight up, 1,600 per 100,000 over past 7 days
-459 currently hospitalized for COVID (70 in ICU)
-1,144,000 tests have been ordered by the County and are expected this week, 300,000 are expected imminently
-Still waiting on NDDHS CDC to provide more information on updated CDC Guidelines on Isolation & Quarantine before implementing with general population.

-Dr. Stoddard said that there are significant staffing issues in all Government offices across the board, including MCFRS, libraries.

MCPS Data Update:

-MCPD set up a system over winter break to monitor COVID-19 cases through Google forms
-5680 positive cases as of January 3
-4,313 students and 1,367 staff
-Daily cases for each school will be posted on a dashboard everyday at 7pm
-11 school have closed
