Governor Hogan tweeted today that he will be awarding a governor’s citation to Cpl. Annette Goodyear of the North East Police Department, the crossing guard that was struck by an oncoming vehicle last week. Goodyear risked her own safety by pushing a student out of harms way just a split second before being struck herself.
Hogan tweeted, “I will be awarding a governor’s citation to Annette Goodyear for her incredible heroism in putting herself at risk to save a young student from being hit by an oncoming car.”
The driver of the vehicle has been charged with several traffic violations, including negligent driving.
“This is a kid, and I’m an adult. No matter what happens, you got to protect that child and make sure that child is safe,” Goodyear told the Washington Post.
Video of the incident, which occurred at North East Middle School, was caught by a nearby school bus camera and can be seen below.
