Chairs Stolen From Rockville Church After They Were Placed Outside in Memory of Students and Teachers Killed at Uvalde Elementary School

Last week, Faith United Methodist Church at 6810 Montrose Rd. in Rockville placed 21 chairs outside of the church as a memorial to the 19 children and two adults who were killed at Robb Elementary School in Uvalde, Texas, on Tuesday, May 23, after a gunman opened fire at the school. On Friday, the pastor of the church posted a message on the church’s Facebook account saying that the chairs had been stolen.

“Pastor Laura here.
We think that our empty chairs, a public witness representing lives lost in the massacre in Uvalde, TX, were stolen last night.
Perhaps as hijinx.
Perhaps as a form of counter witness.
The theme at the 238th session of the Baltimore Washington Annual Conference this week was “Persevere.”
And we will.
Children deserve better, and as Christians, we are called to the work of ending gun violence.
We remember the lives those chairs represent.
God help us be better.”

In response, the church wrote, “Someone stole the chairs, we remember anyway, faithworkshere” and “Chair thief, if you need more let us know, we can share” on its outdoor sign.
