Local Rideshare Driver Purchases Winning $50,000 Scratch-off Ticket at MoCo Shell

A local rideshare driver is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery scratch-off ticket at the Shell gas station at 9510 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. Additional details below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
“A 42-year-old Silver Spring resident has extra pep in his step this week after claiming a $50,000 prize on a Big Money instant ticket. The loyal Lottery player stopped at his local gas station to play a few games and scratched his way to a top-prize win.

A rideshare service driver, the scratch-off fan said he went to the Beltway Shell gas station in Silver Spring about a week ago specifically to play scratch-off games. He had $10 and purchased two $5 instant tickets, one of which was a $5 winner. He used his prize to purchase one more game, which happened to be the Big Money scratch-off. Three must have been his lucky number. When the Montgomery County player scanned the prize check area of his third instant ticket of the day, he saw he won $50,000!
“I was so nervous, I left the store so that I could scratch the ticket in the car,” said the married father of two. “I couldn’t believe it when I actually saw the $50,000 prize on the ticket.”

The big winner called his wife to share the news and also contacted a good friend, who accompanied him to claim the prize. The player told Lottery officials that he plans to use the $50,000 prize to help family members and will save some of the funds for his children’s future. Sharing in his celebration is Beltway Shell, located at 9510 Georgia Avenue in Silver Spring. The store receives a bonus of $500 from the Lottery for selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off. The bonus is equal to 1% of the prize. The fortunate player nabbed the second of six $50,000 top prizes in the game. Also up for grabs are 11 $5,000 prizes and over 870,000 prizes ranging from $5 to $1,000 available. The Big Money game just went on sale last month.
