$50,000 Winning Scratch-off Sold at Local Beer & Wine Shop

A Montgomery County resident is $50,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery scratch-off at Hillandale Beer & Wine at 10117 New Hampshire Avenue. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland lottery:
“A Takoma Park man who has won multiple Lottery second-chance prizes during years of play spotted a $5 Corvette® Cash scratch-off and decided to try his luck. The game offers a second-chance promotion with prizes of up to $150,000 – enough to buy your own Corvette Z06. However, he won instantly, driving away from the Silver Spring Lottery retailer with a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off in hand!

The player, who is a cartoon fan and chose to remain anonymous, picked the nickname “Elmer Fudd” to tell the story of his win. While running errands, the 73-year-old stopped at Hillandale Beer & Wine in Silver Spring to buy beer and noticed the Corvette Cash scratch-off. He couldn’t take his eyes off of the $5 game.

Having won second-chance prizes in Lottery promotions, “Elmer Fudd” knew the game had a second-chance promotion. He added the scratch-off to his cart, purchased his items and quickly headed home. Only hoping to win a prize equal to the money he spent, the Montgomery County man scratched off the instant ticked and quickly realized it was worth much more than $5. “I couldn’t believe my eyes,” he said. “I was very surprised because I’ve never won that much money at once. I thought my eyes were playing tricks on me.”

Filled with joy and adrenaline, “Elmer Fudd” rushed to a store close to his house to scan the game’s prize check area and confirm his Lottery luck. After scanning the ticket twice, he realized he was reading the message correctly and there was no error. From there, he returned home to put the instant ticket back in a safe place. When asked how he will spend his new fortune, “Elmer Fudd” said he has no formal plans because he still can’t believe he won. He added that he will donate most of his winnings to charity. “When I’m blessed, I bless others,” he said. The lucky player also plans to invest in himself in some capacity, such as starting a small business.

The Corvette® Cash game went on sale April 24. The scratch-off has four more top prizes available, along with six $5,000 prizes and more than 623,000 others ranging from $5 to $1,000. Players who don’t win instantly can enter their non-winning Corvette Cash scratch-offs into a second-chance promotion that has two more drawings. Entry deadlines are Aug. 21 and Oct. 9 for the chance to win prizes of $10,000 or $150,000. Enter for a chance to win through My Lottery Rewards. “Elmer Fudd” isn’t alone in his Lottery luck. His retailer can also celebrate, For selling a $50,000 top-prize winning scratch-off, Hillandale Beer & Wine at 10117 New Hampshire Avenue in Silver Spring will receive a $500 bonus from the Lottery.
