Montgomery County ABS Schedules One-Day Store Closures to Install New Point-of-Sale System, First Closure on Sunday, Sept. 10, in Darnestown

Per Montgomery County: Montgomery County Alcohol Beverage Services (ABS) will deploy a new point-of-sale system at all its Liquor Wine and Oak Barrel & Vine retail stores over the next several weeks. Each store will be closed for one full day and will reopen at noon the following day to accommodate installation of the new hardware. The first store closure will occur at the Darnestown Liquor Wine location on Sunday, Sept. 10 with the store reopening at noon on Monday, Sept. 11.

During the project schedule, up to three stores will be closed at a time on a rolling basis until installations are complete at all stores. All retail stores will remain open on Saturdays. ABS expects to finish the upgrades by Oct. 10.

A schedule of closures can be found at www.montgomerycountymd.gov/ABS/stores/POSMigration/Schedule.html. Customers are encouraged to consult the website before visiting their local store.

A point-of-sale system is a combination of hardware and software that allows a business to accept payment for transactions, track inventory, build customer profiles and improve daily business functions. ABS is upgrading its point-of-sale system as a part of its routine modernization program.

ABS is the alcohol wholesaler of beer, wine and spirits for Montgomery County and operates 27 retail stores throughout the County. In addition, ABS manages alcohol licensing, enforcement and education for more than 1,000 businesses. Generating more than $35 million in net income annually, its profits are used to pay down County debt with a large portion deposited in the general fund to pay for resident services that would otherwise be funded by County tax dollars.
