‘Glow-in-the-Dark Pickleball,’ Fall Harvest Festivals and ‘Spooktacular’ Happenings Highlight Montgomery Recreation’s October Special Events

Per Montgomery County: A variety of fall harvest festivals and Halloween-themed happenings highlight Montgomery County Recreation’s calendar of special family-friendly events in October. The events will include “Glow-in-the-Dark” pickleball, swimming with pumpkins and haunted houses.

The festivals and events will be hosted at community recreation centerssenior centers and aquatic facilities across the County. Registration for events can be completed online at ActiveMONTGOMERY.org. Not all events require registration. Registration for fall programs is also currently underway. Winter program registration begins Monday, Nov. 13.

The schedule of Montgomery Recreation October special events will include:

  • Saturday, Oct. 7. 5-7 p.m. Family Paint and Sip. Mid-County Community Recreation Center, 2005 Queensguard Road, Silver Spring. A fun-filled evening of painting and community. Painting supplies, food and drinks (non-alcoholic) will be provided.
  • Friday, Oct. 13. 6-9 p.m. Family Skate Night. Plum Gar Community Recreation Center, 19561 Scenery Drive, Germantown. A night of roller skating with family and friends. Skates will be provided. Registration required. Children under 8 must have supervision.
  • Saturday, Oct. 14. 11:30 a.m..-2 p.m. Fall Harvest Festival. Ross Boddy Neighborhood Recreation Center, 18529 Brooke Road, Sandy Spring. Annual harvest festival will feature pumpkin carving, music, games, arts and crafts, refreshments and more.
  • Saturday, Oct. 14. 5-6 p.m. Bloom at Good Hope: Jess Eliot Myhre. Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center, 14715 Good Hope Road, Silver Spring. An evening of American Roots music with virtuosic flare featuring multi-instrumentalist Jess Eliot Myhre. From the streets of New Orleans to Appalachian hollers, join Jess as she takes listeners on a soul-stirring tour of American music.
  • Sunday, Oct. 15. Noon-3 p.m. Chevy Chase Fall Festival. Jane E. Lawton Community Recreation Center, 4301 Willow Lane, Chevy Chase. Annual fall festival for family fun and games will include music, a pumpkin patch, face painting, a moon bounce and more.
  • Friday, Oct. 20. 6-9 p.m. Family Fun Night. Plum Gar Community Recreation Center, 19561 Scenery Drive, Germantown. A night of fun activities including karaoke, a fast-paced game of Z-Tag and more.
  • Friday, Oct. 20. 7:30-9:30 p.m. Spooktacular Family Movie Night. Long Branch Community Recreation Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring. Get into the Halloween spirit with a screening of Coco. Free event will include popcorn and light refreshments.
  • Saturday, Oct. 21. 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Fall Festival. Nancy H. Dacek North Potomac Community Recreation Center, 13850 Travilah Road, Rockville. Fall festival for family fun and games will include music, fall crafts, inflatables and more.
  • Saturday, Oct. 21. 2-6 p.m. Fall Festival. Good Hope Neighborhood Recreation Center, 14715 Good Hope Road, Silver Spring. Family fun and games will include a moon bounce, pumpkin patch, music, face painting and more.
  • Saturday, Oct. 21. 4-6 p.m. Fall Festival. Gwendolyn Coffield Community Recreation Center, 2450 Lyttonsville Road, Silver Spring. Festival for family will include fun and games, trunk or treat, arts and crafts, music and more.
  • Thursday, Oct. 26. 4-6:30 p.m. Candy and Costumes Community Skate Night. White Oak Community Recreation Center, 1700 April Lane, Silver Spring. Candy, costumes and skateboarding will be part of the afternoon for all ages and skate levels. Be sure to wear your Halloween costume.
  • Friday, Oct. 27. 1-3 p.m. Halloween Dance Club Friday. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Drive, Silver Spring. Holiday celebration with swing and jazz music from The Night & Day Band.
  • Friday, Oct. 27. 7-9:30 p.m. Costume Family Movie Night. Upper County Community Recreation Center, 8201 Emory Grove Road, Gaithersburg. A night of fun and remember to wear your favorite, family friendly, costume. Bring your own blanket or chair.
  • Friday, Oct. 27. 7:30-9:30 p.m. Haunted House. Long Branch Community Recreation Center, 8700 Piney Branch Road, Silver Spring. Wear your costume and bring your Halloween spirit to walk the spooky haunted house. Free for all ages. Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Saturday, Oct. 28. 1-3 p.m. Therapeutic Recreation Family Spooktacular Saturday. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Drive, Silver Spring. This event is for individuals with disabilities and their families. Dress up in your favorite costume and trick-or-treat in our not-so-spooky haunted house. Family-friendly games and fun.
  • Saturday, Oct. 28. 5-8 p.m. Fall Festival. Potomac Community Recreation Center, 11315 Falls Road, Potomac. Festival will have family fun and games including costume contests, trunk or treat, fall crafts and more.
  • Saturday, Oct. 28. 6:30-9:30 p.m. Therapeutic Recreation Enchanted Evening Dance. Holiday Park Senior Center, 3950 Ferrara Drive, Silver Spring. For ages 15 and over with disabilities. Enjoy a DJ, dancing, games, pizza and other refreshments. Registration is encouraged. Come dressed as your favorite enchanted character.
  • Sunday, Oct. 29. 4-6 p.m. Haunted House. Clara Barton Neighborhood Recreation Center, 7425 MacArthur Blvd., Cabin John. Wear your costume and bring your Halloween spirit to walk the spooky haunted house. Free for all ages. Light refreshments will be provided.
  • Sunday, Oct. 29, 3-8:30 p.m. and Monday, Oct. 30, from 6:30-9:30 p.m. Glow in the Dark Pickleball. Bauer Drive Community Recreation Center, 14625 Bauer Drive, Rockville. A Halloween pickleball monster smash. “Halloweenies” and “Toxic Sludge” tickets will be served. There will also be boo-tacular prizes and giveaways.
  • Monday, Oct. 30. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Wheaton Skele-bration. Wheaton Community Recreation Center. 11701 Georgia Ave., Wheaton. Come dressed in your favorite costume for spooky treats and Halloween-themed crafts. Registration required.
  • Tuesday, Oct. 31. 5-8 p.m. Fall Harvest Festival. Bette Carol Thompson Scotland Neighborhood Recreation Center, 7700 Scotland Drive, Potomac. Family fun including a costume contest, arts and crafts, giveaways and more.
  • Throughout October: Floating Pumpkin Patches. Pumpkin picking in Montgomery Recreaion pools. For $5, Kids 2-12 will pick a pumpkin and enjoy a decorating craft. Swimming with your pumpkin will be available in the first hour. Decorating and crafts will be available throughout the event. Children 5 and under require an adult in the water with them. One pumpkin per participant. Events will take place at:

    • Sunday, Oct. 29. 10-11:30 a.m. Kennedy Shriver Aquatic Center, 5900 Executive Blvd., North Bethesda *This event is for kids 2-15 with disabilities and their families.
