What’s New and What’s Coming Soon to Montgomery Mall: December 2023

Below is a list of businesses that are new or coming soon to Montgomery Mall in Bethesda:

Now Open: Donut Chew
Donutchew is now open at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda. Donutchew is currently holding a “pop up” soft opening in the food court kiosk that was recently occupied by Vino Rita. We’re told the donut shop will be moving soon to its permanent location in the spot recently vacated by Adonni’s Desserts, next to Macy’s and across from 7-Eleven. Donutchew offers a variety of mochi donut flavors, sweet and savory croffles (croissant and waffle mix), macarons, bubble tea, and more.

Now Open: See’s Candies
Seasonal retailer See’s Candies is now open at Montgomery Mall at 7101 Democracy Blvd in Bethesda.  See’s specializes in chocolates, truffles, fudge, brittle, toffee, and nuts. See’s joins Sheepskin Gifts & Alpaca Too as stores that have recently opened in the mall for the upcoming holiday shopping season. According to their website, “See’s Candies has been making quality chocolate and candy Mary See’s way for over 95 years. From the beginning, Mary took pride in her recipes and insisted on only the finest, freshest ingredients. Today, we’re still just as committed to making candy the right way.  See’s has expanded from one chocolate shop to over 200 shops across America and a flourishing online store. And though we continue to grow, our commitment to tradition, taste, service and quality never wavers. Stop into one of our iconic black-and-white shops inspired by Mary’s kitchen, or visit us online. You’ll find over 100 varieties of delicious candy, chocolates, and seasonal gifts made with the same motto in mind: Quality Without Compromise.”

The Group now has over 3,400 stores across 38 territories with a strong presence in the UK, Europe, North America and Asia Pacific.” JD Sports currently has locations across the DMV, with Tysons Corner Center being the closest.

Seasonal business Sheepskin Gifts & Alpaca Too has returned to the mall for the upcoming holiday shopping season. The store offers items such as sheepskin steering wheel covers, boots, rugs, and throws.

Coming Soon:  Brio’s Chicken
Brio’s Chicken has announced it will open in the space previously occupied by Tara Thai, which closed this past spring. Menu items at Brio’s will includes Peruvian charbroiled chicken, empanadas, paninis, steaks, and seafood. Brio’s plans to be open daily from 8am-9pm and will offer Sunday brunch. No opening timeframe has been announced. Brio’s Chicken was scheduled to open a location in the Kentlands but after several years of delays and issues caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the restaurant never materialized. Brio’s Chicken previously had a location in Aspen Hill in the Aspen Manor shopping center, where Outback is located, but that location is under new ownership and is now known as Gio’s Chicken.

Now Open: Lids
Lids is now open next to LEGO on the mall’s lower level. Lids is a “mall based, retail headwear” store that sells NBA, NFL, MLB, and NHL licensed hats and merchandise.  According to Westfield, “Get lettering or a unique design embroidered on you new find! Lids will steam and curve the brim in house!” Lids has additional Montgomery County locations at the Clarksburg Outlets, Ellsworth Place (Silver Spring), and Wheaton Mall.  Photo courtesy @lids on Instagram.

Mela (formerly Melashops), a south Asian fashion market, has rebranded and relocated to a new location near Forever 21. The store originally opened in Lakeforest Mall in 2019 and offers Indian/Pakistani/Bangladeshi apparel, jewelry, and accessories. “We are in effect, a mall-within-a-mall and the only multi-vendor shopping destination for South Asian apparel in the DMV area.” Their vendors provide the full spectrum of South Asian clothing, including sarees, dresses, menswear, kids wears, high-end bridal wear, fancy Bollywood party dresses, casual wear, as well as lots of detailed jewelry. New: Napkin Nook (free diapers and formula)
Westfield Montgomery is proud to partner with Bethesda-based non-profit organization, The Napkin Network for the “Napkin Nook” initiative in a testament to the mall’s ongoing commitment to the community. As 1 in 3 families struggle to afford diapers for their children, the Napkin Nook welcomes those in need to take home essential baby items such as diapers and formula, making their parenting journey a little easier. Stationed on the lower level in front of the PlaySpace, the activation aims to bridge the gap between families in need and those eager to help, recognizing the challenges of motherhood and the persistent need within the community.”
