Montgomery County Volunteer Center Expands MLK Jr. Day of Service Volunteering Locations on Monday, Jan. 15

Per Montgomery County: “Montgomery County residents can continue the tradition of honoring the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. through a day of service on Monday, Jan. 15. The Montgomery County Volunteer Center, which is supported by AmeriCorps, is establishing locations throughout the County where residents of all ages can make a difference in a variety of programs.

A wide variety of service projects will be held at the Bethesda North Marriott and six community and recreation centers at times throughout the day. Locations are available in the Silver Spring, Mid-County and UpCounty regions to provide greater access to all.

Volunteer activities are open to all ages and supported by area nonprofit and service organizations. They will include creating costumes for children with disabilities, crafting cards for veterans and first responders, packing hygiene kits and grocery bags for people in need and making patriotic dog bandanas for hero dogs.

Student service-learning hours are available to Montgomery County Public School students. The activities are made possible in part by a grant from AmeriCorps, the Federal agency for volunteerism and service.
