“Aided by $50,000 from a third-tier Powerball win in the Christmas Day drawing, a Rockville player hopes to attend medical school and concentrate in pediatric medicine.
For her short-term plan, however, “I’m going to put it in savings,” she said. The anonymous winner told Lottery officials that she earned her undergraduate degree in health sciences and plans to apply to medical schools in the coming months. During the holidays, the Powerball jackpot was well in excess of $600 million, which caught the winner’s attention.
“With the holidays coming up, I wanted to give it a shot,” she said, adding, “I’m usually a scratch-off girl.”
She typically purchases $1 instant tickets, occasionally buying games priced up to $5. “It’s not as intimidating as going to a casino,” she said. The winner’s mom, who accompanied the Montgomery County resident to claim the prize, reported, “We’re still in shock.” Her dad actually introduced her to Lottery play. Celebration of the win was destined to be a low-key affair. “We’re planning to stop at Dunkin’ Donuts, go home and put my feet up,” she said.
The lucky lady’s winning Powerball ticket came from Safeway #1668, located at 5510 Norbeck Road in Rockville.”
Potomac Local reports that mega gas station/convenience store Buc-ee’s is looking to open its first location in the Greater Washington area.
