Governor Wes Moore announced today that he has joined the National Governors Association’s ‘Disagree Better’ initiative. The Governor posted a video of himself and Lonaconing Mayor Jack Coburn discussing the importance of having differences without being divisive.
“Working together means acknowledging our differences, recognizing different perspectives, and finding a better way to disagree. We can listen to the other side, ask questions, and have important conversations,” said Town of Lonaconing Mayor Jack Coburn. “Together, we can disagree better.”
Disagree Better, founded by National Governors Association Chair Utah Governor Spencer Cox, is an effort to show that as Americans, we can work through our differences to find solutions to the most difficult problems facing our states and our nation. The initiative looks at the problems of polarization, elevates solutions, and features governors showing what disagreeing better looks like. Through public debate, service projects, and a variety of other tactics, the initiative models a more positive and optimistic approach to working through our problems.
While a big part of Disagree Better focuses on governors working together toward a more positive way of solving our national challenges and engaging in policy discussions, the initiative invites everyone to Disagree Better at home, in the community, and in political discussions by bridging partisan divides and finding common ground. A variety of resources are available to find inspiration, take action, and engage in constructive dialogue.
Founded in 1908, the National Governors Association is the voice of the leaders of 55 states, territories, and commonwealths. Through NGA, governors identify priority issues and deal with matters of public policy and governance at the state, national and global levels.
