
February is “Library Lovers Month” and Montgomery County Public Libraries is hosting multiple special events to celebrate.
Per the news release: Montgomery County Public Libraries (MCPL) and Friends of the Library, Montgomery County, Inc. (FOLMC) are hosting special activities and virtual events throughout February to join in the celebration as “Library Lovers Month.” Special events will be held at library branches and FOLMC chapters across the County. The events and activities highlight the variety of resources and services MCPL provides year-round.
“Our libraries serve as lively centers of learning, imagination, creativity and community engagement–essential for fostering equity and ensuring universal access to education,” said Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich. “As we celebrate Library Lovers Month, I encourage everyone to explore our library branches, utilize resources they offer and participate in their special event programs.”
A sampling of programs scheduled during February include:
- Long Branch Book Discussion at Long Branch Library. 2-3 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 15. 8800 Garland Ave., Silver Spring.
- Family Yoga and Mindfulness at Kensington Park Library. 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 17. 4201 Knowles Ave, Kensington.
- We Love Libraries!: A Family Storytime at Aspen Hill Library. 10:30-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. 4407 Aspen Hill Road, Rockville.
- Lunar New Year Celebration Presented by Korean Culture and Art of Maryland at Wheaton Library. 2-3 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24. 11701 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring.
- Songs of Freedom with Linda Harris and Main Street Blues at Wheaton Library. 2-3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 25. 11701 Georgia Ave., Silver Spring.
Library customers are also encouraged to submit an electronic form about why they love their library. The comments will be shared with elected officials.
Library Lovers Month 2024 is sponsored in partnership with FOLMC and the Montgomery County Library Board.
