A Silver Spring man’s tip and a prediction from a store clerk added up to a $50,000 prize. The Montgomery County resident explained that he received a $500 tip from his employer. After giving $350 to his family, he decided to buy three 50 Years! scratch-offs at Dollar Plus Store #7 located at 11250 Triangle Lane in Silver Spring.
As the hotel worker purchased his tickets, the clerk at the store had a positive message for him.
“He told me ‘today is your lucky day,'” the lucky winner said. “I started to laugh but he wasn’t kidding.”
At first, it appeared the clerk wasn’t a great prognosticator. The first two tickets he scratched weren’t winners. On the third one, it appeared he had won $1,000. But when the clerk scanned the ticket, there was far better news.
“He told me, ‘You didn’t win $1,000. You have a $50,000 winner.’ He was right. It was my lucky day,” the winner said with a smile.
The winner said he plans to use the prize money to pay bills and provide additional financial assistance to members of his family.
