Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 16500nblk of S. Frederick Ave (Walnut Hill shopping center) in Gaithersburg at approximately 8:45am on Friday, March 1, for the report of a fire.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the small smoldering fire was located on the roof (between membrane and roof decking) of the upcoming ALDI that is currently under construction. The fire has been extinguished and firefighters are on scene checking for extension. There are no reported injuries. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
Last month, we reported that renovations had started at the Walnut Hill shopping, with Aldi scheduled to open this summer.
