Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to the 400blk of Muddy Branch Dr in Gaithersburg on Tuesday, March 12 for the report of a balcony fire.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, a couch caught fire on the balcony of a three-story garden style apartment. The fire has been extinguished and one patient was evaluated for non-life threatening injuries.
The origin/cause of the fire was improperly discarded smoking materials. The occupant attempted to put the fire out themselves, which delayed 9-1-1 response. Damage is estimated to be $25,000 and one person has been displaced.
We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
