MoCo Woman Wins $5 Million on Maryland Lottery Scratch-off

A Silver Spring resident is $5,000,000 richer after purchasing a winning lottery scratch-off from a District Heights liquor store. Full story below courtesy of the Maryland Lottery:
The Montgomery County woman who claimed the game’s first $5 million prize says she enjoys playing scratch-offs. She was so surprised by the magnitude of her win that she hadn’t given much thought to what she would do with the money. One possibility, she said, is to start a business.

The $5 million win far exceeds her previous personal best Lottery prize of $500, she said. Having won big won’t end her enjoyment of scratch-offs, however, as she says she plans to continue playing.

The lucky lady bought the hot instant ticket at Great Plaza Liquor, which is located at 6439 Marlboro Pike in District Heights. The shop receives a bonus of $5,000 for selling the top-prize winning scratch-off. The prize is equal to 1/10th of 1% of the prize.

While the Silver Spring player’s $5 million prize is only the first on the new ticket, it is the third prize for that amount won on a Maryland Lottery scratch-off. The new $5,000,000 CASH game is Maryland’s second at the $50 price point. The first such game was 50 Years!, an instant ticket that marked the Lottery’s 50th anniversary celebration in 2023. That scratch-off, released Feb. 20, 2023, started with three prizes at the $5 million level. The game remains the Lottery’s 7th best selling (based on total sales) and still has one top prize awaiting discovery.
