Lakelands Park Middle School was in Shelter-In-Place following a threat the school received on Friday morning. At this time police do not believe the threat is credible, but the school will remain in Shelter-In-Place and will “end the shelter as soon as possible.” In communication sent to parents, the school has asked parents not to come to the school or call their children.

Earlier in the week, Principal Rose Alvarez sent a letter home to the community stating that there will be increased security at the school that includes the cluster security coordinator and the Gaithersburg Police Department, out of an abundance of caution, following a social media threat towards four students at the school.

On Friday morning, principal intern Dr. Sofía Vega-Ormeño tweeted the following at 9:31am: “Lakelands Park Middle School is in a Shelter-in-Place as of 9:18 am due to a threat received to our school. Police have been contacted and are on site. We will update the school community with any information as it becomes available and is verified.”

An update was sent to parents with the following information: “Lakelands Park Middle School began a Shelter-in-Place as of 9:18 am due to a threat received to our school. At this time, the police do not believe the threat is credible. We will continue in shelter out of an abundance caution and will end the shelter as soon as possible. Classes, lunches, and other activities will continue as planned inside our building and our exterior doors will remain locked. Our communication will come as frequently as is possible. Please do not come to the school or call your children.”
