Statement From Marc Elrich on the Francis Scott Key Bridge Collapse


Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich released the following statement on Tuesday, March 26 after ship struck the Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore at approximately 1:30am on Tuesday morning, causing the bridge to collapse:

“We woke today to heart-wrenching images and a horrific situation in our State. Our thoughts are with our friends, neighbors, and all those impacted and responding to the collapse of the Francis Scott Key Bridge.

The support and resources of the Montgomery County government were immediately offered and remain available at any time to the State, Baltimore City and Baltimore County to assist with this situation if needed. We hope for the continued safety of all those involved in the rescue effort.”

Maryland Governor Wes Moore has declared a state of emergency due to the collapse and communicated the following:

I have declared a State of Emergency here in Maryland and we are working with an interagency team to quickly deploy federal resources from the Biden Administration.

We are thankful for the brave men and women who are carrying out efforts to rescue those involved and pray for everyone’s safety.

We will remain in close contact with federal, state, and local entities that are carrying out rescue efforts as we continue to assess and respond to this tragedy.
