Search Underway for Coyote After Two Women Attacked in Montgomery County; Residents Advised to Stay Vigilant and Aware of Surroundings

Update: The coyote was located along a trail near Dustin Rd. It was shot and killed and will be tested for rabies. 

A search is currently underway for a coyote after two women were attacked on Thursday, March 28 in Montgomery County.  

At 4:34pm, Tim Pruss (@mydronepro) located the coyote just north of Tucker Lane, Ashton, Maryland this afternoon approx. 3PM. Aerial footage can be seen below.

Per Montgomery County Police: “The Montgomery County Department of Police, Animal Services, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources are currently on the lookout for a coyote that has reportedly attacked two women at separate locations.

The initial call was received the morning of Thursday, March 28, at approximately 9:44 a.m., in the 1400 block of Patuxent Drive, near the Watershed Park. An adult female walking her dog was attacked by a coyote and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening wounds.

At approximately 3:44 p.m., a second call came in reporting an adult female attacked by a coyote in the 3600 block of Bell Road in Burtonsville. The woman was able to fight off the coyote and stab the animal.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings. If the coyote is sighted, it is important not to approach the animal directly. Call 911 or animal services at 240-773-5925.”
