MCFRS Respond to Collision Near Downtown Crown

Updated on 4/14 with additional information

Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) are currently on the scene of a multi-vehicle collision in Gaithersburg.

On Saturday, April 13, 2024, at approximately 7 p.m., MCPD tells us that “officers observed a vehicle that was reported to have been taken in an armed robbery in Delaware. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the area of Sam Eig Hwy. and Fields Rd. The driver of the vehicle rammed multiple police vehicles.” This was initially reported as a collision in the area of Crown/Rio in Gaithersburg until this information was made available.

According to Police, “officers quickly were able to quickly apprehend the driver and two other suspects from inside the vehicle. The adult male driver of the vehicle was transported to the Montgomery County Detention Center where he is currently being held without bond, pending extradition to Delaware. A second adult male was charged and released.   The third suspect, who was a juvenile was charged accordingly and then released to a guardian.”

One officer sustained minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.  No other injuries have been reported. MCPD is actively investigating this incident with the assistance of the Wilmington Police Department.
