Dawson’s Market to Close

Dawson’s Market at 225 N. Washington St. in Rockville Town Square will permanently close at the end of June after twelve years in business.

The specialty grocery store emphasized organic products and offered a wide selection of local produce, gourmet cheeses, fresh baked bread, meat, seafood, beer, and wine. Additionally, the store featured a café/juice bar, salad bar, and hot/prepared food bar. Owner Bart Yablonsky provided us the the following statement:

“It is with a heavy heart that I must inform you of some very unfortunate news. Dawson’s Market will be closing at the end of June. Over the past 12+ years, we have poured our hearts and souls into Dawson’s. Since taking ownership in late 2018, I have been dedicated to keeping the store running, providing meaningful employment opportunities for our staff, including our special needs individuals, and delivering quality food and service to our loyal customers. The memories we’ve created together will always remain in my heart, from our first days building equipment in 2012 to working with so many local vendors, and to all of the wonderful staff, many of whom have been with us from the beginning, as well as the wonderful vendors, distributors, and customers we have known over the years.

Who can forget COVID, where we built an online site over the weekend and turned our personal vehicles into delivery trucks to stay in stock? Dawson’s has impacted so many people over the past 12 years, and many of you were instrumental in our return after the closing in 2018. I truly appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support from our customers, vendors, and government officials back in 2018. You are all a testament to the vibrant community we’ve built together.

While it is devastating to see this chapter come to an end, I am hopeful that new opportunities await each of us. You never know what doors may open that we wouldn’t have otherwise explored.

Thank you to all of our staff for your hard work, dedication, and unwavering support throughout the years. Let’s cherish the time we have left together and stay connected as we navigate this transition.”

Dawson’s Market previously closed in October 2018 but reopened two months later. The market also had a second location in Dupont Circle from June 2021 to June 2023.
According to its website, “The Dawson’s Market mission is rooted in staying locally focused by sourcing products within a 100-mile radius of our store and partnering with locally-owned businesses for our daily operational needs. For us, buying local is a way of life and a big way to support our local community.” We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
