
A body was recovered from the Potomac River this morning near Sandy Landing at Great Falls Park. It is believed to be that of a swimmer who went missing on Friday, May 24, 2024.
According to the Chief Spokesperson for Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS), a local kayaker spotted a body in the water around 8 a.m. and alerted authorities. Swift Water Rescue Teams had been searching for the missing swimmer for several days. Montgomery County Police are now conducting a death investigation.
The search began at approximately 8:45pm on Friday when rescue personnel were dispatched for a missing swimmer in the Potomac River after a group was attempting to swim from Virginia to Maryland and one became distressed. We will provide an update if additional information becomes available.
