Below you’ll find a list of places to get free donuts and great deals for National Donut Day, which falls on the first Friday of each June. According to National Day Calendar, the “holiday” was created by the Salvation Army in 1938 as a fundraiser to honor the women who served doughnuts to soldiers in World War I.
Sunflower Bakery: Sunflower Bakery, located at 5951 Halpine Road in Rockville, will celebrate National Donut Day on Friday, June 7th by launching its first-ever line of donuts. Sunflower Bakery is a nonprofit organization that trains young adults with learning differences for careers in the food industry. Donuts will range from $2-3.
Donut King: Donut King at 3727 University Blvd in Kensington is offering up to a dozen donuts for just $.99 each.
Duck Donuts: Duck Donuts at 1327 Rockville Pike will be offering free cinnamon sugar donut with no purchase is necessary.
Krispy Kreme: Krispy Kreme, with its sole MoCo location at 14919 Shady Grove Rd, will offer a free doughnut with no purchase necessary.
“On National Doughnut Day, Americans can receive any “favorite” doughnut of choice FREE – no purchase necessary (excludes limited time only doughnuts) – as well as a $2 Original Glazed® dozen with the purchase of any dozen in shop and via drive-thru at participating Krispy Kreme shops.”

Sheetz: From June 7-9, Sheetz at 751 Progress Way in Gaithersburg will offer one free donut to customers with the purchase of any coffee made through the Sheetz app.
Dunkin’: Dunkin, which has dozens of locations across MoCo, is offering a free donut with any beverage purchase. “On June 7, head to any Dunkin’ location nationwide to enjoy a free classic donut of your choice with the purchase of any beverage while supplies last. It’s the perfect excuse to try a delicious drink from the new summer menu, like the Blueberry Donut Iced Coffee or the Vanilla Frosted Donut Iced Coffee Signature Latte.”
