Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a collision involving a vehicle fire on Thursday, July 4, on southbound I-270 near Montrose Road.
According to Pete Piringer, Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS, the collision involved two vehicles crashing into jersey walls, with one catching fire. Fireworks were found scattered across the road from the burning vehicle, and its driver fled the scene. Three patients from the non-burning vehicle were evaluated for non-life threatening injuries.
Fire and Explosive Investigators confiscated two lawn/leaf bags filled with fireworks, estimated to be worth over $500.
MCPD tweeted the following at 4:49am on Thursday, July 4: “TRAFFIC ADVISORY: Fire rescue activity has southbound I-270 closed at Montrose Road. Drivers are advised to seek an alternate route. Expect delays.”
