Taipei Tokyo to Close in Fallsgrove, Replacement Announced

Taipei Tokyo at 14921 Shady Grove Rd D in the Fallsgrove Village Center in Rockville has announced it will close this month. The restaurant will be replaced by Kung Fu 12 Szechuan, which is expected to open relatively soon after taking over the location.

The original Taipei Tokyo at 11510 Rockville Pike will remain open.

The restaurant posted the following message on its social media: “🙏 As we prepare to bid farewell to our restaurant at Fallsgrove Village Center in mid September, we want to thank our beloved community—our kind and brave team and family of incredible customers, the amazing network of restaurant industry partners and our lovely friends over at Lerner Corporation who have supported us from day one. Thank you for welcoming us and our culture into your homes with open hearts, minds and spirits.

We appreciate your grace and understanding with our cultural differences that are often lost in translation. It has not been an easy path for our women-owned and run business, however it has been a blessing to be a part of this wonderful community. When we opened our doors at our Rockville Pike location in 1993, the industry was populated with an entirely different set of norms; our traditional Taiwanese homestyle cooking with its blend of Chinese, Japanese and Southeast Asian cuisine was a new experience for most people.

As the style and landscape of restaurants have changed over the years, we have adapted while purposefully holding steady at our core to remain a local community-based family restaurant. Our greatest joy and the reason we keep on doing what we do is our unwavering love for community and food and the opportunity to share our cultural traditions with you. As we move on from this era, we hope you will come and visit us at our original restaurant, the one where it all started—Taipei Tokyo Cafe (Metro Pike Center on Rockville Pike).

We would like to welcome you to dine with our friends over at Kung Fu 12 Szechuan restaurant who will be taking over the reins at our Fallsgrove restaurant location after a quick renovation. We are immeasurably grateful for your love and support. Thank you 謝謝, and as we say in Taiwan when we’re gathering with family and friends—吃飯啊 Jia Bong Ah (It’s Chow Time)! ✨”
