66-Year-Old Arrested Following Standoff With Police

A 66-year-old man was arrested on Thursday after he allegedly threatened officers with a knife while illegally occupying a vacant building in Chevy Chase.

According to Park Police, “The Maryland-National Capital Park Police arrested Jose Angel Diaz-Vasquez, a 66-year-old male today who was armed and illegally occupying a vacant park building located in Willard Avenue Neighborhood Park. Park Police responded to a call at 9:47 a.m. at the 5300 block of Willard Avenue in Chevy Chase of a person trespassing in the house.

When officers attempted to enter the house, the suspect threatened them with a knife and refused to vacate the premises. Montgomery County Police SWAT were called to the scene and the suspect was removed from the house and arrested. No one was harmed in the incident.

The investigation is still underway.”
