$50,000 Winning Powerball Ticket Sold at Local Beer & Wine Deli

A Gaithersburg man won $50,000 after purchasing a winning Powerball ticket at the Cedar Grove Store in Germantown, a local spot known for its craft beer and sandwiches, including the popular “David Special,” featuring smoked turkey or ham, bacon, pepperjack cheese, chipotle mayo, lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and horseradish bread and butter pickles. “A casual player from Gaithersburg who was focused on casino games just renewed his interest in the Lottery after winning $50,000 in the Sept. 9 Powerball Double Play drawing. He held one of two winning Maryland Double Play tickets in the drawing that night.

“There’s no use in stopping playing now. I’m not getting older, I’m getting better,” he said upon claiming his third-tier prize last week at Maryland Lottery headquarters in Baltimore.

Prior to the Powerball win, the Montgomery County resident was more inclined to visit the MGM National Harbor casino to play games and enjoy a cigar on the casino’s outdoor terrace. His Double Play win, however, has him focused on other activities in addition to a renewed interest in the Lottery.

An angler whose fishing pursuits include “whatever’s biting,” he says part of his winnings will go toward buying a boat. In addition, he has a few homeowner projects to address and will put some of the prize into savings. Winning may have increased his interest in paying attention to his Lottery tickets, as well. Initially, he did not realize his $3 ticket was a $50,000 winner.

“My daughter told me I won!” he explained.

He bought the lucky ticket at the Cedar Grove Store. The Montgomery County business is located at 23412 Ridge Road in Germantown. This was the fifth $50,000-winning Powerball Double Play ticket sold in Maryland in 2024.”
