Governor Wes Moore issued the following statement regarding Kilmar Armando Abrego Garcia, a Maryland father who was mistakenly deported to El Salvador despite being granted protected status by an immigration judge in 2019.
I have no higher priority than the safety of Marylanders. And state and federal law enforcement work tirelessly to root out violent crime in our state.
But we can be pro-public safety and pro-Constitution at the same time.
No one should be deported to the very country where a judge determined they will face persecution. It’s outrageous that due process means nothing to the federal administration. They’ve admitted to making an error and I urge them to correct it.
