Elementary Dance Team Wins Big in First Competitive Season

The Tides Dance Team, made up of students from Waters Landing and Lake Seneca Elementary Schools in Germantown, Maryland, won three champion titles in their first competitive season at the 2025 Cheer & Dance Extreme Finale Invitational.

“The Tides Dance Team, the first elementary school dance team representing Montgomery County Public Schools, won three champion titles at the 2025 Cheer & Dance Extreme Finale Invitational Competition held at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center on the National Harbor this past weekend.

Students from Germantown, Maryland’s Waters Landing and Lake Seneca Elementary Schools make up the Tides Dance Team. This is the team’s first year of competition, and under the direction of Parent Community Coordinator Mrs. Shanique Moore, they placed first or second in each of the three competitions this season.

Parent volunteers make up the coaching staff, which includes Coach Riley (Head Coach), Coach Bobbi, Coach Williams, Coach Ellis, Coach Tolson, Coach Grey, and Coach Gross (5th grade Waters Landing Teacher), who coach the team with an emphasis on family engagement.

In order for dancers and other participants who are not yet on the competitive team to be ready for competitions and performances, coaches practice with them three to four days a week and on numerous weekends. The squad has managed to secure practice space with the help of the school administration.

These children and coaches have overcome many obstacles and won the competition season, despite the difficulties of sustaining funding while attending two Title 1 schools. They remain excited and hopeful about expanding their collaborations with neighborhood organizations and having another great dancing season.

Watch out for the TIDES!”
