Free Expungement Clinic on May 17 Offers On-Site Legal Help to Clear Eligible Criminal Records

The Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, in partnership with local organizations, is hosting a free expungement clinic on May 17 to help eligible individuals begin the process of clearing certain charges from their criminal records with on-site legal assistance and conditional approvals.

Per the news release: “The State’s Attorney’s Office for Montgomery County, MD, is partnering with Mt. Calvary Baptist Church along with Maryland Legal Aid and the Montgomery County Public Defender’s Office for a free expungement clinic this Saturday, May 17, 2025. Citizens who happen to be charged with an offense that is later dismissed may be eligible to have the incident removed from their record. Additionally, pursuant to Criminal Procedure Article, Section 10-110, there are certain charges that may be removed from a person’s record five (5) years after they satisfy the sentence imposed including parole, probation, or mandatory supervision.

WHEN: May 17, 2025, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

WHERE: Mt. Calvary Baptist Church, 608 N. Horners Lane, Rockville, MD 20850

Some of the offenses that may be eligible for expungement after the appropriate time period are:

-Possessing or administering a controlled dangerous substance

-Possession of paraphernalia

-Possession or purchase of noncontrolled substance

-4th degree burglary

-Breaking and entering a Motor Vehicle

-Malicious Destruction of Property

-Trespass on posted property

-Failure to return rental vehicle

-General Theft provisions

-Disturbing the peace

-Illegal dumping

All cases are not eligible for expungement. If you have outstanding, unresolved, or pending charges you will not be eligible. Those who want to attend may call and RSVP. (see flyer) Applicants are encouraged to bring any paperwork that they have with the case numbers of cases that they would like cleared from their record.

This clinic provides a unique opportunity to expedite the expungement process for eligible people because they will have legal representation and an Assistant State’s Attorney will be on hand to conditionally approve the applications so long as there are no pending or unresolved charges.”
