Following the recent fatal shooting of two Israeli Embassy staff members outside the Capital Jewish Museum in Washington, D.C., the Rockville City Police Department (RCPD) announced it has increased patrols near synagogues, places of worship, and community centers, and is working with local leaders to support community safety. Similarly, MCPD issued a statement on Thursday, May 22, noting that while there is no known threat, patrols around Jewish institutions have been increased out of an abundance of caution.
Per RCPD: “In light of the tragic, hate-based killings in Washington, D.C. this week, the Rockville City Police Department is actively working to ensure the safety of our community. We have increased patrols and visibility around synagogues, places of worship, and community centers throughout the city.
We take these concerns seriously and remain in close contact with faith-based and community leaders to provide reassurance and support. Your safety is our priority.
If you or someone you know experiences or witnesses a hate or bias-related incident, we encourage you to report it through the Montgomery County portal: https://montgomerycountymd.gov/mcg/report-hate-bias.html
Hate has no place in Rockville. Let’s continue to stand together for a safe, respectful, and inclusive community.”
