$1 Million Winning Scratch-off Sold in Maryland

A truck driver from Columbia, MD won $1 million from a MONOPOLY X100 scratch-off ticket purchased on May 24 at a Travel Centers of America in Elkton, briefly throwing it away before realizing it was a winner. Full story below courtesy MD Lottery:

“It’s almost unbearable to think of a winning $1 million Lottery ticket being thrown in the trash, but a local truck driver briefly did just that with his MONOPOLY X100 scratch-off.

Broken wiper blades and the need for a cup of coffee caused the Columbia resident to visit the Travel Centers of America rest stop in Elkton. Once he obtained everything he needed to get back on the road, he decided to buy some Lottery tickets, with the $20 MONOPOLY X100 game being his final selection.

The Howard County resident threw his ticket in the trash, believing it wasn’t a winner. He had second thoughts, and decided to retrieve and scan the ticket. After scanning the ticket, he saw the message, “See Lottery,” and knew he made the right decision to double check the ticket.

Although very excited about his win, he has decided to keep the news under wraps. The Columbia man hasn’t decided what he is going to do with his winnings. He’s already a homeowner, but he may purchase a second house.

Travel Centers of America at 1400 Elkton Rd in Cecil County will receive a $1,000 bonus for selling a winning scratch-off worth $1 million.”
