Legendary Pizzeria With One Maryland Location Celebrates 100 Years

Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana, the New Haven-born institution credited with popularizing coal-fired, New Haven-style pizza, is celebrating 100 years in business. The company opened its first Maryland location at Westfield Montgomery Mall in Bethesda in 2022.

“Our grandfather founded Frank Pepe Pizzeria Napoletana in Connecticut in 1925, fueled by his passion for great food, tradition and community,” said Jennifer Bimonte-Kelly, granddaughter of Frank Pepe, who immigrated to the United States from Italy as a teenager in 1909. “Over the last century, Frank Pepe’s has served generations of families and grown into a beloved pizzeria with 17 locations along the eastern United States – a testament to the legacy our grandfather and grandmother, Filomena, built together.”

The business has expanded over the years and recently introduced its first full bar, called The Char Bar, at its Delray Beach, Florida location. Frank Pepe’s has also been featured multiple times in The Daily Meal’s list of Best Pizzas in America and received a 9.4 rating from Barstool’s Dave Portnoy during his popular “One Bite” pizza review series.

As part of its centennial celebration, the pizzeria is offering an 18-inch cheese pizza for $19.25 to dine-in customers, Monday through Friday, from June 2 to 30 and is running a sweepstakes PepesTauck100.com.
