City of Gaithersburg Celebrates Pride Month

The City of Gaithersburg is celebrating Pride Month with an official proclamation and a series of events throughout June that honor the LGBTQIA+ community and promote inclusivity and equality.

Per the City of Gaithersburg: “The City of Gaithersburg celebrates Pride Month in June with an official proclamation and programs that celebrate the strength, dignity, and achievements of LGBTQIA+ communities. Join us in making a stand for inclusivity and equality for all of our neighbors. Explore all of our Pride Month activities here. An official proclamation designating June as Pride Month in the City of Gaithersburg was presented at the Mayor and City Council meeting on Monday, June 2. Activities and programs celebrating Pride Month include:

Pride Ribbon Wands at Kentlands Mansion
Create colorful Pride ribbon wands to be displayed at Kentlands Mansion throughout the month of June. Students can earn up to two Student Service Learning (SSL) hours. The last day to drop off wands is June 22.

Bull in a China Shop
In Partnership with The Montgomery Playhouse

Arts Barn

Inspired by the real love letters between Mary Woolley and Jeannette Marks spanning from 1899 to 1937, Bryna Turner’s acclaimed “Bull in a China Shop” is an excavation of queer history – a love story disguised as a revolution, or perhaps a revolution in the guise of a romance. Recommended for ages 15 and up (contains adult language and intimacy.)

The Gaithersburg Community Museum invites LGBTQ+ families to enjoy a welcoming, kid-friendly space filled with special PRIDE-themed crafts, storytimes, and engaging activities that highlight notable LGBTQ+ Marylanders. On Saturday, PFLAG will join us as part of this meaningful weekend celebration.

Join us for a delightful morning filled with books, songs, and movement. Guest reader Hazel Monae, City of Gaithersburg’s Racial Equity Diversity & Inclusion Program Manager, will be joining the event as we read books celebrating PRIDE and being true to yourself. Program is for ages 2 to 6.

Pride Month is celebrated annually in the United States during the month of June, which has become a symbolic month around the world for LGBTQIA+ people and allies to come together in various celebrations of acceptance and equality.”
