Update: Maryland State Police are now investigating this incident as a fatal wrong-way collision.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded around 2:45 a.m. to a serious two-vehicle collision on northbound I-270 between Middlebrook Road and Route 118 in Germantown.
According to Chief Spokesperson for MCFRS Pete Piringer, the crash involved entrapment and a vehicle fire. Emergency crews, including multiple fire and rescue units, were dispatched to the scene. As a result of the incident, all northbound lanes of I-270 are currently shut down, and traffic is being detoured to Exit 15A. Two patients are being evaluated with life-threatening traumatic injuries.
