Takumi Japanese Bistro and Bar is currently holding a soft opening for its new location at 4929 Bethesda Avenue. The restaurant occupies a space with a rich history of Asian-inspired dining, previously home to Wang Dynasty and, for 15 years before that, the beloved Shanghai Village.
Menu highlights include Wagyu Nigiri, Omakase Nigiri Sets, specialty rolls like the Dragon and Bumblebee, and entrées such as Chicken Katsu, Miso Black Cod, and Japanese Wagyu Fried Rice, with desserts like mochi ice cream and mango crepe cake.
The 4929 Bethesda Avenue address has long been a fixture in the local dining scene. Wang Dynasty, which served Chinese cuisine at the location from 2019 to 2025, closed its doors recently. Prior to that, Shanghai Village was a neighborhood favorite for a decade and a half, known for its traditional Chinese fare and its reputation as a local celebrity hangout, with regulars like basketball legend Red Auerbach.
