Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services (MCFRS) responded to a house fire on Monday, August 18, in the 4800 block of Broad Brook Drive in Bethesda.
According to MCFRS spokesperson David Pazos, crews arrived to find heavy fire showing from the living room and garage of a one-story ranch-style home, with neighbors reporting that someone might still be inside. Firefighters quickly began a search and located an unconscious adult male, who was removed from the home, assisted by firefighters, treated for smoke inhalation, and transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators determined the fire was accidental, caused by unattended cooking in the kitchen involving a microwave. Damage is estimated at $275,000. Two adults were displaced. Smoke alarms were present and functional, and the fire was first reported by a neighbor who saw smoke and called 911. The fire was brought under control shortly after.
