Dogfish Head Alehouse to Open New Virginia Location

Last month, we reported that plans were underway to bring the Dogfish Head Alehouse brand back to Northern Virginia.

According to The Burn, Dogfish Head Alehouse is set to open at the Reston Town Center Next development.

The brand just celebrated the 20th anniversary of its Gaithersburg location at 800 W. Diamond Ave. Under previous ownership, Dogfish Head Alehouse also operated restaurants in Falls Church (6220 Leesburg Pike) and Fairfax (13041 Lee Jackson Memorial Hwy), which closed in 2022 and 2023.

In 2024, the Gaithersburg Alehouse was sold by its original owners to Viswanath Vasireddy, a DMV-based restaurateur whose hospitality group also owns Clarity in Vienna, Copperwood Tavern in Arlington, Bamboo Garden in Herndon, and Aura Ashburn Indian Food Paradise. Since the sale, the Gaithersburg restaurant has undergone renovations and upgrades under the new ownership.

Dogfish Head Alehouse continues to operate independently under a licensing agreement with Dogfish Head Brewery, founded in Milton, Delaware, in 1995 by Sam Calagione. The brewery became known for its high-alcohol beers brewed with distinctive ingredients such as chicory and pumpkin. In May 2019, Dogfish Head merged with The Boston Beer Company, the makers of Samuel Adams.
