Rockville Urges Public Not to Tamper With Tree Stakes and Cages

The City of Rockville is reporting damage to protective equipment around newly planted trees in parks and rights-of-way and is reminding the public not to tamper with tree protections, urging residents to report any incidents to city police.

Per the City of Rockville: “Damage has been reported to protective equipment installed around newly planted trees in Rockville parks and rights-of-way. Examples include cut tree stakes and deer cages being removed.

These protective measures are essential, as stakes provide support to help trees grow straight and stable during early development; deer cages prevent bark damage caused by buck rubbing, which can seriously injure or kill a tree.

Do not tamper with or remove any tree protection. Report tampering with city trees by calling the Rockville City Police Department nonemergency line at 240-314-8900.

For questions or concerns about public trees, contact the Forestry Division at [email protected] or 240-314-8700, 7 a.m.-3 p.m. Monday-Friday.”
