Chicken Basket, located at 30 N. Summit Ave. in Olde Towne Gaithersburg, will celebrate its 47th anniversary on Thursday, October 9, 2025.
The longtime neighborhood favorite first opened in 1978, serving a wide range of comfort foods including fried chicken, wings, subs, gyros, salads, wraps, kabobs, burgers, and seafood. After closing in April 2019 due to a fire, Chicken Basket reopened in 2023, reestablishing itself as a staple of the Gaithersburg dining scene.
To celebrate, the restaurant will be offering guests 10% off their meals. Chicken Basket operates Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., and is closed on Sundays.

In 2024, Cheapism highlighted Chicken Basket in a feature on “fried chicken joints in every state that offer fantastic chicken in an unpretentious atmosphere.” Although the credited the Wheaton location, which had already closed, the write-up pointed readers toward the Gaithersburg restaurant, still run by the original owners. Cheapism praised Chicken Basket as a local favorite worth the trip for classic fried chicken.
