Montgomery College’s Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus is marking Banned Books Week with a series of events running Monday, October 6 through Friday, October 10, 2025. The programs are organized by the TP/SS Banned Book Week Committee in collaboration with the college’s Reading and English Department and MC Library.
Activities include daily “Check Out a Banned Book” tables, panel discussions, readings, author talks, and interactive games. Highlights include a panel discussion on October 7 featuring professors Greg Wahl and Lisa Nevans-Locke, student Diane Carillo, and a “Graffiti Wall in Support of Free Reading.” On October 9, author Saundra Mitchell will give two talks focused on censorship and representation in literature.
The events are designed to draw attention to censorship issues and promote the importance of access, equity, and diversity in reading. All sessions are open to students and community members at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring campus, 7600 Takoma Avenue.
