Community Rallies to Support Family of 11-Year-Old Struck and Killed by School Bus While Riding Bike

A GoFundMe has been organized to support the family of 11-year-old Summer Lim, who was tragically struck and killed by a school bus on October 9 while returning home from Earl B. Wood Middle School in Aspen Hill/Rockville.

According to police, the collision occurred around 3:13 p.m. when a school bus turning from Bauer Drive onto Russett Road struck Summer, who was riding her bicycle home from school. Despite life-saving efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Summer, remembered as a talented artist, avid reader, and adventurous spirit, leaves behind her parents, younger sister, and younger brother. Funds raised will help cover funeral expenses and provide support to her family during this difficult time.

Per the GoFundMe:

My husband Minh, is the best friend of Summer’s father Vong, since the 6th grade. In efforts to help our friend who is like family, we thank you for your support during these difficult times.

Summer Lim was 11 years old. Summer loved drawing– she was an amazing artist, enjoyed reading books, loved the outdoors, athletic, and most of all loved spending time with her family and friends. She was adventurous and brave–in any activity she would be first in line to swim, jump, rock climb, zip line, and fly. She is the eldest in her family among her siblings, leaving behind her parents, younger sister, and younger brother.

On October 9, 2025 while coming home from Earl B. Wood Middle School, Summer was tragically struck by a school bus. Her sudden passing has left her family and community heartbroken, facing a loss that is impossible to put into words. In the midst of this unimaginable tragedy, her family is now faced with unexpected funeral expenses and the costs of honoring Summer’s memory.

This fundraiser will help cover funeral services, to celebrate Summer’s life, and also provide support for her family in the difficult weeks ahead. Any support you can offer means so much to Summer’s loved ones as they navigate this painful time. Your kindness and generosity will help them focus on healing and remembering Summer for the incredible person she was.
