The community is coming together to support Oliver, a local pig who suffered severe injuries after being attacked, believed to be by a loose dog or dogs, while in his barn earlier this week.
Oliver sustained multiple deep bite wounds around his head and neck, a shredded ear, and a large laceration along his flank that required emergency surgery at New Bolton Medical Center.
His owner, Emily Hanna of Gaithersburg, shared that the surgery went well and that Oliver’s prognosis is positive, though his recovery will be long and difficult. He is expected to remain hospitalized for about a week before returning home to continue treatment and receive close care. The cost of Oliver’s hospital stay is estimated at $3,000, not including previous emergency veterinary treatment. To help cover the expenses, a fundraiser has been launched, and community members have started donating and sharing words of encouragement.
Oliver’s owner expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support, saying that every contribution helps ensure he receives the care and attention needed for a full recovery.

Hi Friends. Unfortunately, the worst has happened for my sweet Oliver pig and his companions. They were viciously attacked by what we think was a loose dog or dogs while in their barn. Oliver suffered significant wounds, including deep, 2-inch puncture wounds from bites around his head and neck, a shredded ear, and a large laceration in his flank that went through several layers of muscle. He underwent surgery at New Bolton Medical Center this morning to assess, clean, and dress his wounds. Thankfully, his prognosis is currently good, but his recovery will be long and arduous. He is expected to stay in the hospital for the next week before returning to Montgomery County with me, so I can continue providing him close care and support. The cost of his hospital stay is expected to be $3k, not including the emergency vet care received before I transported him to the hospital.Unfortunately, I was not financially prepared for this expense and am having to get creative to cover the costs of his vet bills. While I am committed to providing the best care I possibly can for Oliver,I am humbly asking for extra support from his friends and following who have also known and loved him. Any amount and support is so appreciated by me and Oliver.
