Marc Elrich to Launch Campaign for At-Large Montgomery County Council Seat

Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich will kick off his campaign for an At-Large seat on the Montgomery County Council with an event next month at McGinty’s Public House in Silver Spring.
The campaign launch rally is scheduled for Thursday, December 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Elrich is currently serving his second term as County Executive after being first elected to the position in 2018 and re-elected in 2022. Prior to leading the county’s executive branch, he served three at-large terms on the Montgomery County Council beginning in 2006. His career in public service also includes nearly two decades as a member of the Takoma Park City Council from 1987 to 2006, as well as 17 years as a teacher at Rolling Terrace Elementary School.

In a message to residents, Elrich said he is seeking the at-large Council seat because he is term-limited as County Executive and believes the Council plays a significant role in shaping county policy related to neighborhoods, schools, the agricultural reserve, the environment, business, economic development, and more. He encouraged supporters to attend the kickoff event and to participate as volunteers, donors, and advocates as he prepares for the June 23, 2026 Democratic primary.
